🕊️ Introduction: When the World Shook, One Man Stood

The famine did not arrive suddenly. It began quietly—with failed harvests, shrinking supplies, and growing worries. People in Egypt and the surrounding nations quickly realized that the situation was more serious than in previous years. Families had too little, merchants had nothing left to sell, and even Pharaoh knew that his power had limits. The world began to tremble, and no one knew how to avert the crisis.

In the midst of this uncertainty stood Joseph. He was not born into royalty, nor was he part of Egypt’s elite, and in fact he would have had every reason to think only of himself. But it was exactly in this time that it became clear God had not placed him in this position by coincidence. Joseph had been prepared—through years of service, challenge, and responsibility. Now, in the crisis, the land needed someone who could act with foresight, reliability, and justice.

The need revealed not only the weaknesses of the nation but also the strength of a man whose character had been formed in the hidden place. Joseph did not use his position for self-promotion but for the protection of many people. Thus he became an instrument of God in a time when hope was desperately needed.

📜 Devotion

When Joseph stood before Pharaoh, the focus was not on his liberation or personal success. Pharaoh’s dream made it clear that a severe famine was coming, and Joseph immediately understood that quick and wise action was necessary. He recommended measures to prepare the land for the coming years. This attitude set him apart: He didn’t only see the problem—he sought solutions.

Joseph understood that this task went far beyond his personal story. His years in Potiphar’s house and in prison had taught him to take responsibility even when circumstances were difficult. These experiences now equipped him to lead the nation through one of the greatest crises of its time.

The famine quickly revealed how valuable preparation was. While the famine struck harshly in other regions, Egypt was able to act because of the stored provisions. People from many countries came seeking help. Joseph treated them with respect and fairness. Managing the supplies was no easy task: It required organization, oversight, decisions, and sometimes courage to implement unpopular measures. But Joseph showed a posture marked by clarity and responsibility.

When his brothers eventually came to Egypt, they stood before a man they did not recognize. Joseph had the opportunity to take revenge. But instead of retaliation, he chose reconciliation. He understood that God had used his difficult years to prepare him for this very moment. His decision to become a blessing rather than react to past injustice transformed not only his family—it saved a nation.

Joseph’s example makes it clear that God does not only lead people out of crises—He often leads them directly into crises so they can be a blessing. Joseph was not accidentally in the right place. God had prepared him through years of faithfulness in small things for responsibility in great things. In the crisis, what has matured inside a person becomes visible.

Lord,
you know the crises of this world and the challenges in my own life.
I ask you: Open my eyes to the people who need help now.
Give me a heart ready to serve and hands willing to act.

Strengthen me where I am weak.
Give me wisdom to make decisions that protect and strengthen others.
And help me to make Your love visible in every situation.
